HL Deb 10 July 1986 vol 478 c576WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will call for a report concerning the situation at the Royal Scottish National Hospital, Forth Valley, where it is alleged that mentally handicapped patients have been discharged suffering from malnutrition and at risk from drug abuse.

The Lord Advocate (Lord Cameron of Lochbroom)

Mental handicap hospitals in Scotland are regularly visited by the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and the Scottish Hospital Advisory Service, and neither of these bodies has made any reference to malnutrition or drug misuse among patients at the Royal Scottish National Hospital. Forth Valley Health Board make strenuous efforts to furnish those patients who return to life in the community with appropriate social work support. The Government have found no corroboration of the allegation which was recently made at a conference.
