asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has made to the EEC Commission regarding the quota allocation of North sea herring to Norway in the 1986 quota negotiations; and what will be his policy towards this in the next round of quota negotiations.

As my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and I have told this House on several occasions, we have expressed our dissatisfaction to the Commission more than once at the way the negotiations for North sea herring were conducted with Norway.

Recently a joint working group of Community and Norwegian scientists has produced a report on this stock and this will form a basis for further discussions on its sharing. We are closely studying this report.
