§ Mr. EggarPresident von Weizsaecker's memorable state visit marked in a clear and inspiring manner the special nature and importance of the relationship between our countries. As the president noted in his address to Members of both Houses of Parliament on 2 July, it is a partnership which rests on a solid basis, marked by frankness and trust; and it is a precious asset as we face the tasks of the future, above all in constructing a more united Europe and overcoming the divisions between East and West.
