(2) what was the number of men over the age of 60 years who were in receipt of supplementary benefit or unemployment benefit but were not required to register for employment as at 1 April;
(3) how many people were in receipt of unemployment benefit on 1 April.
§ Mr. MajorAll claimants for unemployment benefit, irrespective of their age, are required to be available for work and to sign at an unemployment benefit office (UBO). Supplementary benefit claimants aged 60 or more are not required to be available for work and are usually paid by order book. Registration at a jobcentre for employment has been voluntary since October 1982, except for those under 18 years. The information requested, at the latest available dates, is in the table.
