§ Mr. GoodladThe United Kingdom is a member of the European collaboration for the development of the fast reactor, which was established by the intergovernmental memorandum of understanding of January 1984. This states that activities taking place as part of the collaboration will be directed to the peaceful development of nuclear energy. The collaboration envisages a sequence of demonstration reactors to be built in the collaborating countries. There is, however, no specific proposal at present to construct a demonstration fast reactor at Dounreay or anywhere else in the United Kingdom.
