§ Mr. WaldenThe strategic defence initiative research programme, together with a number of domestic and European schemes, offer United Kingdom university, polytechnic and industrial researchers the opportunity to seek to participate in work in a range of fields that are at the forefront of engineering and advanced technology.

§ Mr. WaldenThe following table shows the present members of the Science and Engineering Research Council, the institutions of their first — and, where appropriate, second — degrees, and their present employments.
Members are appointed by my right hon. Friend in accordance with the relevant provisions of article 4 of the council's royal charter.
