§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many diplomats have been breathalysed in each of the past five years and to date; and, of these, how many were found to be positive.
§ Mr. MellorInformation is not collected centrally on the occupation or status of those required to provide a sample for a screening breath test. An accredited diplomat, because of his inviolability under article 29 of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations, cannot be required to provide such a sample. Diplomats may, however, be breath tested before their entitlement to immunity is known, or at their own request to demonstrate that they are capable of driving safely.
