§ Mr. MellorSince June 1979 we have received representations expressing concern about the convictions of the six men or seeking a review of the case, from the Government of the Republic of Ireland; the Archbishop of Canterbury; the Archbishops of Westminster and Armagh; the Bishops of Down and Connor; and of Derry; the Irish Commission for Prisoners Overseas; the Irish Chaplaincy Scheme in Britain; the Council of Irish County Associations; the Irish Episcopal Commission for Emigrants; the Irish American Unity Conference of Texas, USA; Pax Christi; Birmingham's Women's Aid; and Action des Chretiens pour 1'Abolition de la Torture (Paris).
In addition, we have received letters from some 40 right hon. and hon. Members, some of whom forwarded letters from their constituents: two noble Lords, members of the prisoners' families and about 35 members of the public.
