HC Deb 04 July 1986 vol 100 cc660-1W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much money was allocated in 1985–86 for research on verification of a comprehensive test ban treaty.

Mr. Lee

I have been asked to reply.

The most important verification technology is seismology. Government expenditure on unclassified work in this area during 1985–86 was £1.5 million. The Government also undertake classified work in related areas, details of which cannot be revealed on grounds of national security.
