HC Deb 04 July 1986 vol 100 c655W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much has been spent in Wales on the technical and vocational education initiative and community programme vocational education schemes in each year since their inception.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

I am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that expenditure under the technical and vocational education initiative for the financial years 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1985–86 was £1,449,568, £2,375.573 and £3,105,377, respectively.

The CPVE is administered by the Joint Board for Pre-Vocational Education and figures for the Board's expenditure in Wales are not separately available. The Welsh Office contributes to the grant paid by the Department of Education and Science to the joint board for the development of the CPVE. For the financial years 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1985–86 the contribution was £48,000, £41,000 and £57,000, respectively.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much money has been spent on provision for Welsh-medium instruction of the technical and vocational education initiative and community programme vocational education schemes in Wales in each year since their inception.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

It is not possible separately to identify expenditure on provision for Welsh medium teaching under the TVEI and CPVE schemes.
