Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what a scale 1 teacher was paid on 1 May of each year since 1974, at outturn and at current prices.

The table shows the salary (excluding all allowances) of teachers in maintained and primary and secondary schools at point 13 of scale 1 on 1 May of each year since 1974 in cash prices and in 1986 prices (adjusted by reference to the RPI).
