HC Deb 04 July 1986 vol 100 c654W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the cost of the emergency relief Her Majesty's Government have provided to Jamaica to assist in the repair of damage caused by recent floods; if he is proposing any long-term rehabilitation schemes to follow the immediate assistance; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

The total cost of the emergency relief is expected to be around £300,000. In response to a request from the Jamaican Government, we have also provided 150 tonnes of Bailey bridging and associated material under an additional £250,000 programme aid loan. The bridging has already been shipped. We have no current plans for assisting with long-term rehabilitation.

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he expects the 150 tonnes of Bailey bridging materials Her Majesty's Government are providing to replace bridges destroyed by the recent floods in Jamaica to arrive.

Mr. Raison

The Bailey bridging materials are expected to arrive in Jamaica on 27 July.
