§ Sir Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (I) if he will grant limited entry into the United Kingdom for amateur sportsmen from the Indian sub-continent who are kabbadi players;
(2) why he is insisting on work permits to be presented by amateur kabbadi players from the Indian sub-continent coming to Britain every summer.
§ Mr. WaddingtonWhether sportsmen require work permits depends on the terms of their engagement. I have considered the question of the admission of kabbadi players and have decided that they may be admitted without work permits unless the immigration officer is not satisfied that they meet the requirements of the immigration rules as visitors.
