HL Deb 01 July 1986 vol 477 c870WA
Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether consideration is currently being given to the possibility of requiring prison governor grades to wear uniform and, if so, at what stage will the prison governors' branch of the Society of Civil and Public Servants be consulted about this.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Glenarthur)

This issue was raised in the report of the Review of Management Structure in Prison Service Establishments, on which my right honourable friend the Secretary of State hopes to announce his intentions shortly. The governors' branch of the Society of Civil and Public Servants gave evidence to the review team and further consultation will take place before decisions are implemented. My right honourable friend also discussed the review with representatives of the governors' branch at their recent meeting.
