§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will give the names of the police officers appointed to examine the case of the six men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings;
(2) when he will report on the result of inquiries into the case of the six men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings.
§ Mr. MellorMy right hon. Friend is examining the case carefully in order to determine whether material 583W which has been sent to him contains new evidence of a kind which would make it appropriate for him to refer the case to the Court of Appeal. In doing so he is considering whether there is any need to ask the police to undertake further inquiries. Examination of the case is being carried out as quickly as possible, but I cannot yet say when my right hon. Friend will be in a position to reach a decision.
