§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his reply of 20 January, when and how he disclosed to the Bangladesh Home Minister and Home Secretary the intention of the British Government to carry out an experimental scheme in Dhaka using the DNA fingerprinting techniques; what the reaction of Bangladeshi Ministers was; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EggarI indicated our intention to introduce the DNA technique on an experimental basis to the Bangladeshi Home Minister and senior officials in Dhaka during my visit from 7 to 10 January. Subsequent to our discussions they indicated some anxiety. The High Commissioner in Bangladesh is continuing to discuss the matter with the Bangladesh authorities.
