§ Mr. Tom KingThe Provisional IRA's bombing campaign on police stations and the intimidation of building contractors involved in security works will not diminish the Royal Ulster Constabulary's commitment to discharging its essential tasks. The Government and the Police Authority for Northern Ireland are firmly resolved that those police stations which need to be replaced will be rebuilt as a matter of top priority.
For security reasons I do not wish to detail the steps which the Government have taken, and will be taking, in conjunction with the Police Authority to ensure that the momentum of the police building programme is maintained. However, I can say that the Royal Engineers will play an important role in this: already they have provided invaluable assistance at a number of locations.
