Mr. Stan Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the planned number of clinical psychologists for each region in 1994 according to the latest stategic plans;

(2) what is the present number of clinical psychologists in post for each region according to the latest strategic plans;

(3) what is the estimated shortfall of clinical psychologists in each region allowing for wastage and likely postgraduate training output according to the latest strategic plans.

The regional strategic plans show manpower changes in terms of broad staff groups and, overall, do not provide information at the level of detail requested. Following are figures derived from the routine annual manpower census for England.
