§ Mr. Chris PattenThe proportion of full-time teachers under 60 years of age leaving the maintained nursery, primary and secondary sector in England and Wales was 6.7 per cent. in 1983–84, the latest year for which figures are available. The proportion of wastage accounted for by teachers who left under schemes of early retirement was 20.3 per cent. Figures for 1983–84 and the previous five years are as follows:
