HC Deb 13 January 1986 vol 89 c522W
47. Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many ferry ships accompanied the task force to the Falkland Islands; and what part they played in the hostilities.

Mr. Stanley

Initially, six ferries (Baltic Ferry, Nordic Ferry, Europic Ferry, St. Edmund, Elk and Norland) accompanied the task force. They were needed to carry troops and their support equipment. The Tor Caledonia followed with stores and vehicles but arrived after hostilities had ceased.

The Europic Ferry and the Norland were used to carry troops for the first landings at San Carlos. The remaining troops and stores were disembarked over the next few days at San Carlos and Ajax bay.
