asked the Secretary of State for Social Services under what circumstances the Dental Estimates Board is authorised to approve the placement of composite or glass ionomer filling materials in the biting surfaces of premolar and molar teeth; if he will make a statement on the fees that can be authorised for such fillings in the posterior teeth; and if he will make a statement.

The board can approve the use of these materials in such circumstances as it sees fit. The fees that can be authorised for their use in posterior teeth are as followsPermanent teeth: £6.40 per filling, with a maximum of £9.20 for two or more fillings per tooth and an additional fee of £4.00 if pin or screw retention is used. Deciduous teeth: £2.80 per tooth.
