HC Deb 26 February 1986 vol 92 c589W
Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the cost of plant breeding rights and national list testing in Scotland; and if he will distinguish therein between administrative and operational cost.

Mr. John MacKay

The estimated expenditure to be incurred in Scotland in the financial year 1985–86 is approximately £190,000 for plant breeders' rights testing including administrative expenditure and VAT charges amounting together to some £40,000. For national list testing the figure is approximately £570,000, including administrative expenditure of £10,000.

Expenditure incurred in testing for plant breeders' rights is recovered from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
