HC Deb 26 February 1986 vol 92 c561W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the estimate for (a) apprentice intake and (b) the number of apprentices in training at Rosyth dockyard for 1986–87 and 1987–88.

Mr. Lee

The estimate for apprentice entry at Rosyth dockyard in 1986–87 is 144. Following entry of this number, and allowing for those completing training, there should be some 649 apprentices under training at Rosyth in the latter part of 1986–87; this would be the highest level since 1981–82.

The number of apprentices to be trained in future years, which would include decisions on the 1987–88 level of intake and the number then under training, will be a matter for discussion between the dockyard commercial operator and this Department.
