§ Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action the Government intend to seek to encourage the development of schemes for reparation between victim and offender.
§ Mr. HurdWe have been observing the development of such schemes with great interest and are providing 485W funding for four experimental projects. As a contribution to public debate and to help in reaching a view on the place of reparation in the criminal justice system, we have prepared a consultative document which is published today. I am arranging for copies to be placed in the Library and in the Vote Office. The document describes existing experimental schemes and the issues of principle and practice which they raise and invites views on these and on the adequacy of the courts' existing powers.
