HC Deb 25 February 1986 vol 92 c517W
18. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has as to the trend in the level of violence against social workers by their clients in the last two years.

Mr. Whitney

Certain risks of this kind are inherent in the nature of a social worker's duties, particularly those which bring him or her into contact with emotionally disturbed or mentally disordered clients. It would not be practicable to collect comprehensive information centrally but such indications as we have about the incidence of violence do not reveal a trend. Employing authorities have a responsibility to monitor the level of risk to their staff.
