HC Deb 25 February 1986 vol 92 c543W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Army establishments exist in the United Kingdom and overseas; and what is his estimate of the value of other buildings, facilities and stores; and if he will give similar figures for the Royal Navy.

Mr. Lee

There are approximately 500 major army units and establishments in the United Kingdom and an army presence in 74 main locations overseas. The navy has 65 principal establishments in the United Kingdom and a further four overseas.

No estimate is readily available of the value of buildings, facilities and stores, and the assembly of this information would involve a disproportionate amount of effort in both the Ministry of Defence and the Property Services Agency.
