Mr. Cashasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people have died from acquired immune deficiency syndrome since the disease was first diagnosed in the United Kingdom, in which places in the United Kingdom; how many have been diagnosed as having contracted acquired immune deficiency syndrome; and where the diagnosis was made.
§ Mr. HayhoeUp to the end of January 1986, 287 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome had been reported to the communicable disease surveillance centre. These may be broken down into geographical areas as follows:

Of these cases, there have been 144 deaths. As patients may receive treatment in one part of the country but return closer to home when they are nearing death, a breakdown of deaths by location is not available.
