HC Deb 24 February 1986 vol 92 c446W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representation Her Majesty's Government have made concerning the use of torture against their own citizens by the Government of Iran.

Mr. Renton

We wholly condemn the use of torture wherever and whenever it may occur. The United Kingdom co-sponsored the UN resolution in December which called on Iran to respond to the allegations of torture. We have made no recent representations to the Iranian Government specifically on torture, but we do take every suitable opportunity to raise human rights matters with them.
