HC Deb 24 February 1986 vol 92 c420W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what he expects to be the effect of completing the European internal market on (a) the structure of British industry, (b) the level of unemployment in the United Kingdom, (c) the level of British exports to the European Economic Community, (d) the level of British imports from the European Economic Community, (e) the United Kingdom's balance of payments and (f) the rate of growth of the British economy.

Mr. Alan Clark

Progress towards completing the internal market will be one of a number of factors influencing the development of the British economy. In general, removing barriers to trade within the Community should further increase our trade with other member states and reduce costs to business. It should therefore help to stimulate increased efficiency in the use of resources and accordingly encourage growth of the economy.
