HC Deb 20 February 1986 vol 92 c277W
Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Paymaster General how many persons aged 16 and 17 years, respectively, are presently engaged in YTS in the borough of Knowsley; and what increase in numbers he expects over the next year.

Mr. Trippier

At 31 January 1986, the latest date for which statistics are available, there were 1,207 16-yearolds and 94 17-year-olds on YTS in the borough of Knowsley.

Plans for expected numbers of entrants in 1986–87 have not yet been finalised at local authority district level.

Mr. Hughes

asked the Paymaster General how many young persons he expects will join the proposed extended YTS scheme (a) nationally and (b) in Knowsley in its first and second year of operation, respectively.

Mr. Trippier

We estimate that around 360,000 young people will enter YTS nationally in 1986–87 and a similar number in 1987–88. Plans for 1986–87 and 1987–88 have not yet been finalised at local authority district level.
