HC Deb 20 February 1986 vol 92 c289W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects to reply to the letter from the Association of Holiday Centres supporting the proposal for a four-term year in schools.

Mr. Dunn

A reply was sent on 17 February.

Mr. Stephen

Ross asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received in favour of a four-term year for schools in England and Wales;

(2) when he expects to respond to the proposals submitted by the Association of County Councils in favour of a four-term year in schools.

Mr. Dunn

A paper was forwarded last August to my right hon. Friend by the National Association of Head Teachers. More recently the National Association of Holiday Centres Ltd has expressed an interest.

Proposals in favour of a four term year for schools in England have not been submitted to the Government by the Association of County Councils, but I understand that a consultative document on the subject has been recently issued by the Association with a wide circulation as a basis for discussion. I will be interested to see the responses which are made to the document.
