HC Deb 20 February 1986 vol 92 c314W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many representations he has received during the past three months concerning the pay and conditions of medical laboratory scientific officers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitney

We have received 12 letters during the past three months concerning the pay and conditions of medical laboratory scientific officers. These are matters for the professional and technical staffs B Whitley council which, like other negotiating bodies, must have regard for what health authorities can afford within the resources available to them.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received concerning representation for medical laboratory scientific officers in his pay review body dealing with professions allied to medicine.

Mr. Whitney

Representations to this effect have been received from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences, the professional body for medical laboratory scientific officers, and from time to time in letters which we have received. We have stated in reply that we are not prepared to extend further the scope of the pay review bodies. No such approach has been made by the trade unions representing this group of staff on the Whitley council.
