§ Mr. Radiceasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he remains satisfied with the preparations for the introduciton of the GCSE examination; and if he wil make a statement.
§ Sir Keith JosephYes. The Secondary Examinations Council, the GCSE examining groups and the local education authorities have all combined to provide a 287W programme of preparation for the new examination courses which is thorough and of high quality and to which the Department is making a substantial financial contrbution. Teachers now need to play their part, in particular by attending the training seminars which are being mounted this term and next. I look to teachers to consider the responsibilities they have to their pupils who will be the first GCSE candidates.
