Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the average period of custodial remand for female custodial remand prisoners in Northern Ireland for the years 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985.

Mr. Scott

[pursuant to his reply, 3 February 1986, c. 78]: The average number of days spent in custody from first remand to termination of trial for females in 1983, 1984 and 1985 was 125.5, 105.4 and 63.0 respectively. A comparable figure for 1982 is not available.
