asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the precise reasons for Dr. Skuse retiring; and on what terms he retired.

Dr. Skuse retired voluntarily, and it is not the practice to divulge details of the reasons for such retirements. Dr. Skuse retired on the terms which are payable to mobile civil servants who retire in the public interest; these are set out in paragraphs 10.3–10.8 of the "Rules of the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme 1974".
