asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider endowing a British university chair for civil defence.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how he will establish whether local authorities are meeting the objectives and priorities he will be setting them on the civil defence register.

Whilst there is no register, I can confirm that monitoring local authority performance is included in the proposed programme for implementing the Civil Defence Regulations 1983.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied that the civil defence adviser has sufficient staff to enable him to assess what local authorities are doing to meet their civil defence commitments.
