§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what preliminary consideration has been made by his Department of the possible new Airbus A330 and A340; if an assessment has been made of the proposed British input to this venture; what information he has on the technology involved in the new proposed wing structure; if he will take steps to encourage this new venture; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. PattieMy Department has had preliminary discussions with British Aerospace about these possible new programmes, and contacts with the company will be continuing. British Aerospace is still considering the extent of its own involvement in the design and development of a new wing for the aircraft. I have no information as yet on the technology involved in the proposed new wing. British Aerospace has indicated that it would expect in due course to apply for Government launch aid in respect of its participation in these programmes.
§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what information he has as to the proportion of the production of the British Aerospace 269W industry represented by the Airbus A320; what information he has as to the proportional contribution of the industry to the manufacture of the Airbus A320; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what information he has as to how many Airbus A320s have been firmly ordered, and by which airlines; how many options exist for this aircraft, and from which airlines; and if he will make a statement.
