§ Mr. Sedgemoreasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will use his powers under the Companies Act 1985 to ascertain who were the beneficial owners of shares held in nominees' names in Westland plc at the time when the decision was taken to accept the Sikorsky proposals.
§ Mr. HowardWestland has itself issued notices under section 212 of the Companies Act requiring disclosure of information about the beneficial ownership of the shares in question. In the present circumstances, action by the Secretary of State is unnecessary.
