HC Deb 18 February 1986 vol 92 cc129-30W
Mr. McWilliam

asked the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission, how many (a) Reporters and (b) Trainees were currently actually in post in the Official Report at 12 February; and what are the expected future temporary and permanent losses in each category to 30 April 1986.

Mr. Beith

On 12 February there were five Reporters and 11 trainees actually in post in theOfficial Report. Three of the trainees have completed the two years training and are awaiting their confirmation by the Editor as full Reporters. In addition, one Reporter was substituting to Committee Sub-Editor and one was on maternity leave. Both will have left permanently by 30 April, as will two trainee Reporters. So far as can be foreseen, one of the five Reporters will substitute to Committee Sub-Editor after 3 March 1986 if the Committee Sub-Editor concerned has not returned from unpaid leave. The creation of additional posts at Committee Sub-Editor level, which would be filled by promotion from among the Reporters, is currently under discussion.

Mr. McWilliam

asked the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission if, pursuant to his answer of 11 February, Official Report, column 395, he will list the names of the 10 Hansard Reporters stated as being in post on 10 February; and if he will make a statement.
