Mr. Cohen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, pursuant to the answer of 7 February to the hon. Member for Walthamstow (Mr. Deakins), Official Report, columns 277–8, (a) there has been in the past or (b) there is currently any contingent obligation in the future regarding liabilities on the taxpayer under a guarantee to rescue any member of the London gold marker other than Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd., or any member of any of the London financial markets; and if he will make a statement.
