HC Deb 18 February 1986 vol 92 c105W
121. Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what measures have been taken to seek to make education more relevant to the needs of industry.

Sir Keith Joseph

A major aim of Government policy is to ensure that all parts of the education system contribute effectively to the preparation of pupils and students for their working lives, that non-advanced further education is more reponsive to the demands of employers and that higher education contributes more effectively to improving the performance of the national economy. These objectives and the many specific measures taken to encourage the partnership between education and industry and commerce are set out in the White Papers "Better Schools" (Cmnd. 9469), "Training for Jobs (Cmnd. 9135), "Education and Training for Young People" (Cmnd. 9482), and in the Green Paper "The Development of Higher Education into the 1990s" (Cmnd. 9524).
