§ Mr. LeeResearch and Development expenditure totalling approximately £800 million was allocated in 1983–84 to those companies listed in annex G of the "Statement on the Defence Estimates", Cmnd. 9430-I, which were paid over £100 million for equipment in 1983–84. This represents over half of total extramural research and development expenditure with private industry and public corporations in that year. Expenditure allocated to the individual companies is commercial in confidence.
