§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to obtain from health authorities information on the identity of those hospitals which the Institution of Environmental Health Officers has reported would have warranted prosecution under food hygiene legislation, were it not for Crown immunity; and if he will publish such information.
§ Mr. HayhoeNo. All health authorities have been reminded that they are expected to meet the standards required by food hygiene legislation, and my right hon. Friend has announced that the Government will be bringing forward legislation to make health authorities subject to the provisions of the Food Act 1984. I will, however, continue to follow up all individual cases of alleged poor food hygiene standards in hospitals which are brought to my attention.
