§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Prime Minister what assessment Her Majesty's Government have made of the effect on (a) employment and (b) the United Kingdom manufacturing base of the possible sale of British Leyland divisions to United States companies.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Government's aim is to secure a strong vehicle manufacturing base in the United Kingdom. Only efficient operating units producing competitive products which people at home and abroad want to buy will strengthen the manufacturing base and guarantee jobs in the long term.
