§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what investigations he has made and what conclusions he has reached concerning the cost of services to the Inner London education authority which are currently provided by the Greater London council; and what liability he expects to be placed on the Inner London education authority after 31 March next.
§ Mr. Chris PattenServices costing in total some £200 million a year are provided to the present Inner London education authority by the Greater London council. In setting and redetermining an expenditure level for the new ILEA for 1986–87, my right hon. Friend considered that in general the cost of services to the new ILEA should be no greater than the cost of services from the GLC. When redetermining the expenditure level in December, he added £7.5 million to it in respect of extra costs which he expected to arise from the abolition of the GLC: these422W were for the most part for services which had been provided by the GLC but had not been recharged to the present ILEA.
