§ Mr. Giles ShawThe Firearms Act 1968 requires a chief officer of police to satisfy himself that an applicant has a good reason for having in his possession the firearm or ammunition in respect of which the application is made, that he is a fit person to be entrusted with it and that he can be permitted to have it in his possession without danger to the public safety or to the peace.
