HC Deb 10 February 1986 vol 91 c318W
Mr. Watts

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps his Department takes to ensure that persons admitted to the United Kingdom as visitors leave the United Kingdom upon the expiry of their leave to enter.

Mr. Waddington

The conditions on which persons are admitted to the United Kingdom as visitors require them to leave the country before their period of leave expires, save where an application is made for an extension of stay or change of immigration status.

The embarkation of some visitors is confirmed by reference to the record on the current computer system and those who overstay their leave are liable to prosecution or to the other enforcement action for which provision is made in the Immigration Act 1971.
