HL Deb 10 February 1986 vol 471 c94WA
Baroness Vickers

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What further assistance they will make available to refugees and victims of the African famine.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

Her Majesty's Government have made available a further £3 million for spending in the current financial year. Of this, £1.5 million is being allocated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; £500,000 to the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and £1 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

These sums are additional to the £750,000 approved last month, of which £500,000 was for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and £250,000 for the International Committee of the Red Cross.
