HL Deb 06 February 1986 vol 470 c1357WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What changes have been made within HM Prisons to help prevent suicides, following the Report of the Chief Inspector of Prisons, published in September 1983; and

Whether the Working Group on Suicides and Prisons, established by the Home Secretary, which was due to complete its work in the autumn of 1985, has yet reported; what its conclusions were and whether these will be made public.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Glenarthur)

HM Chief Inspector's ReportSuicide in Prisons was published in September 1984. The working group, which was set up to examine in more detail the issues raised by HM Chief Inspector before changes were made in existing procedures, has completed its report. My right honourable friend the Home Secretary is considering how to give early effect to the working group's conclusions, which will be made public in due course.
