Friend may wish to write to the chairman of the Souh-Western regional health authority who may be able to provide details of local activity. The estimated median interval between the date a patient was put on the waiting list and the date of admission to a National Health Service hospital in England for the specialty of trauma and orthopaedics in 1983, the latest year for which information is available centrally, was 13 weeks.
